WATCH: 20 years ago Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Arsenal and the Paolo Di Canio push
Time certainly flies in football and yesterday marked 20 years since one of the most famous incidents in football occured.
Wednesday were beating Arsenal 1-0 in a Premiership tie when Paolo Di Canio pushed over referee Paul Alcock after getting shown the red card for a clash with Gooner defender Martin Keown.
Di Canio’s actions led to an 11 match ban and a £10,000 fine after Alcock’s dramatic tumble to the ground. Wim Jonk’s foul on Vieira in the middle of the pitch sparked the scuffle between players from both sides as Di Canio grabbed, kicked and pushed Martin Keown, earning a red card.
